2 August 2025 - A view of the roadshow exhibition taking place. |
In early August, contractor Sato Kogyo held a roadshow for contract CR115 to update residents and stakeholders in the area on construction progress for the project. The roadshow was held at a pavilion in Tavistock Park, with a few exhibition panels on display covering various areas such as construction updates on the Earth Retaining & Stablising System (ERSS), tunneling works and road diversions. Various representatives from the contractor and the public relations team were on hand to interact with visitors and answer any questions raised.

Progress of tunneling works
Tunneling works have been ongoing for some time under the contract, with machine launching taking place from a shaft located at Teck Ghee Park, across the Central Expressway (CTE) from Tavistock station. From here, 3 tunnel boring machines (TBMs) would be launched for 4 drives, with 1 of the machines being used for 2 drives instead of 1. Based on the exhibition panel, and interaction with the staff on site, tunneling work has been progressing well with 1 drive since completed by TBM1A. Works are underway to reassemble the TBM for its second drive from the launch shaft to Ang Mo Kio station.

TBMs 2 and 3, on the other hand, are making progress towards Serangoon North station. Both TBMs will tunnel through the Tavistock station box, where the tunnel ring segments will be eventually removed once excavation commences. In fact, TBM2 had already cleared through the station box while TBM3 was in the vicinity of the CTE.

Progress of ERSS & road diversions
With regards to the construction of the ERSS, diaphragm walls for Tavistock station, progress was approximately around 60% completion. Works had been completed for the outline of the station on the southern side, with works now focusing on the northern half. To facilitate these works, upcoming traffic diversions will need to be implemented.

What's next?
Road diversions will be implemented between August and October 2025 to allow the remainder of the diaphragm wall to be constructed along the northern edge of the station. To do so, the eastbound carriageway of Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 will be pushed further southwards in stages. The first phase of implementation will see the roadway in front of block 5022 up to the junction with Ang Mo Kio Industrial Park 2 pushed further south while the second phase will see the remainder of the road near Gain City follow suit.
