An overview of Riviera & Punggol stations along the CPE in June 2025. |
Having missed out covering the remaining 2 stations along the Cross Island Line (CRL)'s Punggol Extension (CPE) in the CRL May 2025 snapshot, we visited these station sites in June to catch up. The sites were hives of activities, especially with a major road diversion at the junction of Punggol Central & Punggol Place being implemented this past month. More details after the jump.
CP3 – Riviera (Contract P103)
In a nutshell: Ground improvement works were underway along the length of Punggol Central under the station's contract, ahead of the large diameter tunnel boring machine (TBM) making its way through, likely some time in 2026. The need to improve ground conditions along the length of the roadway has resulted in multiple diversions, with 4 pedestrian overhead bridges removed and replaced with street-level pedestrian crossings, increasing the number of times motorists need to stop at traffic lights.
At the station itself, diaphragm wall construction works are ongoing. These works are likely to continue on into 2027 and will form an outline from which excavation works will take place. Part of the design of the station calls for the construction of T-shaped wall supports, which is not typical.

CP4 – Punggol (Contract P105)
In a nutshell: The junction of Punggol Central and Punggol Place was the most recent road diversion enacted at the station site, splitting the former cross-junction into 2 smaller T-junctions. Part of Punggol Central was swung further north to allow diaphragm wall construction works to commence along the southern edge of the station next to the temporary Punggol bus interchange. The diversion was implemented in late June 2025 and it would take some time before the site would be cleared to facilitate the earth retaining & stabilising structure works.
Within the existing Punggol MRT & LRT station, modification works were becoming apparent to facilitate connection with the new station areas. Tape was seen at the concourse and platform levels to demarcate the location of hoarding or diverted pathways.
