CR103 - Aviation Park 2022 year-end update

27 December 2022 - An overview of the station site at the corner of Aviation Park Road.

Aviation Park is one of the stations where it is more difficult to decipher what construction activities are taking place. Nonetheless, we paid the station a visit and used the best possible vantage point to try grab some pictures - a double decker bus. Owing to the site's proximity to the airport, no tall buildings exist in the vicinity from which one would be able to view the site.

CR106 - Loyang 2022 year-end update

27 December 2022

Over at Loyang, the site is slowly undergoing changes. One of the more obvious changes is the tree felling along a stretch of Loyang Avenue, outside the JTC industrial blocks. Soil investigation works are also taking place beyond the perimeter wall of the development. Apart from this, further up Loyang Avenue, works are underway to construct bus shelters along a part of the carriageway that will be closed and converted into a bus priority corridor for the duration of the station & Loyang Viaduct construction works.

CR107 - Pasir Ris East 2022 year-end update

27 December 2022 - A eastward aerial view of the closed section
of Pasir Ris Drive 1.

27 December 2022 - A view of the Pasir Ris East CC along Pasir Ris Drive 4.

Since our last visit to Pasir Ris East following the closure of a section of Pasir Ris Drive 1 to facilitate construction works, there have not been too many changes. Work is mostly still at a site preparation phase with trees mostly still intact. The closed section of roadway has temporary metal barriers placed to keep pedestrians off the street while work goes on. Jersey barriers can be seen at the site as set up works continue.

CR116 - Ang Mo Kio 2022 year-end update

17 December 2022 - A view westwards along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3.

Contract CR116 is for the construction of Ang Mo Kio interchange with the existing North-South Line (NSL) station and connecting tunnels towards Teck Ghee station. Site clearing is in progress and hoarding has been put up at the work sites for exits 6, 7 and 8. The work sites for exits 5 and 9 have yet to be hoarded up though. As part of the construction work, exits 1 and 2 will be reconfigured, hence a lot of work is taking place within the town garden next to the existing NSL station.

CR115 - Tavistock 2022 year-end update

17 December 2022 - A view of the work site behind the bus stop
near Tavistock park.

17 December 2022 - Another view of the same site after load testing
works have been completed.

The contract for Tavistock station was awarded together with the contract for the construction of Serangoon North station. However the site at Tavistock appears to be a fair bit more advanced in preparation than that of Serangoon North's. This contract also involves the construction of the line's twin bored running tunnels connecting with both Ang Mo Kio and Serangoon North stations on either side. An intermediate launch shaft near the Central Expressway is to be built to facilitate tunneling works as well.

CR113 - Serangoon North 2022 year-end update

17 December 2022 - Progress of the contract site office at the junction of Yio Chu Kang Road,
Hougang Avenue 2 & Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3.

17 December 2022 - A close up of ongoing work.

Serangoon North station falls under a contract that was one of the last few to be awarded for the Cross Island Line (CRL). Due to the complexity of the station site, the contract only involves the design & construction of the station building only and does not include the construction of any tunnels to be used by the main line. Works are still at a preparatory stage with only the Exit 1 site showing any major activity.

CR111 - Defu 2022 year-end progress

16 December 2022 - Auger machine on site.

Firstly, we'd like to wish all readers a Merry Christmas! We hope that you're having a great holiday wherever you are. Work at Defu station is beginning to ramp up with heavy machinery now on site. Previously, the site was being prepared with jersey barriers being set up around the perimeter to demarcate the work area and segregate pedestrians from construction activities. The site has changed a little with works progressively becoming more intense.

CR110 - PLAB Tunnel 2022 year-end update

16 December 2022 - A view of the site office.

Contract CR110 is for the construction of a large diameter bored tunnel from Paya Lebar Air Base (PLAB) to Defu station. The launch shaft for the large diameter tunnel boring machine (TBM) will be located near a row of shophouses along Tampines Road. Work has been going on here for some time with heavy machinery progressively being brought on site. A hydrofraise machine was also recently seen here, awaiting deployment for the construction of diaphragm walls.

CR109 - Tampines North 2022 year-end update

16 December 2022 - An overview of the station site.

Compared to the last time we were at Tampines North, work has advanced some. During the last visit the works were centred on soil investigation & some site preparation. These have since progressed to site set up with machinery on site & load testing. Heavy machinery is now on site to perform various work activities such as lifting, piling & moving of soil.

CR108 - Pasir Ris 2022 year-end update

16 December 2022 - A view of the existing EWL station and platform extension works.

16 December 2022 - A close up view of the platform extension works to create a replacement
emergency escape stairs to allow the relocation of services & demolition of structures.

Works at Pasir Ris (Central) station are ramping up with diaphragm walling machines visible on site across the contract. In particular, works to construct diaphragm walls are underway for the paid transfer link that will connect to the platform of the existing East-West Line (EWL) station. Low headroom equipment is being used to allow works to continue beneath the existing EWL track viaducts. In view of the tight deadline for the closure of a section of Pasir Ris Drive 1 which runs on top of the station roof slab, works to have diaphragm walls constructed underneath the currently closed section of Pasir Ris Central are being done. Upon their completion, Pasir Ris Central is due to be reopened to provide an alternative route and to allow the closure of Pasir Ris Drive 1.

CR116 - New visualization video

Today, visualizer WW uploaded a new video showing aerial views of how the upcoming Ang Mo Kio Cross Island Line (CRL) station will look like and the manner in which it integrates with the existing town garden & North-South Line (NSL) station. From the video, it appears that the southbound platform of the NSL will see barriers put up to segregate trains from visitors that may be strolling at the park on the roof of the new CRL station exit.

This is a blog-only post.

CR209 - For West Coast station

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) released the tender for contract CR209 for the construction of West Coast station & tunnels. West Coast station will be 1 of 6 stations that form the second phase of the Cross Island Line (CRL). To date, 3 tenders have been floated. The first two tenders will close in April 2023 whilst this tender is due in May 2023. As with the other contracts, the completion of works will be in June 2032. As with the other contracts, we can assume that construction will commence in 2024 after the contracts are awarded in end-2023.

This is a blog-only post.

CR112 - Hougang 2022 year-end update

5 December 2022 - A view of the contract's southern site next to the bus interchange.

5 December 2022 - Another aerial view of the contract's southern site.

It's been a while since we stopped by Hougang to check on progress. Things are going well and the station is one of the quickest in terms of progress. Diaphragm walling works are well underway with 2 machines on site making rounds excavating the panels to form a contiguous wall around the perimeter of the excavation site. We understand that works are focused on the northern site in particular as a launch shaft may be located there to facilitate tunneling works towards Serangoon North station.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced the award of 2 contracts for the Cross Island Line (CRL) today - contracts P105 & CR202. Contract P105 is for the construction of Punggol interchange station along the Cross Island Line - Punggol Extension (CPE) route. This contract was awarded to local company Woh Hup that had previously constructed Woodlands South station on the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) and is now working on Tanjong Katong & Bayshore stations (do head on down to the ERL Construction Blog to see upcoming updates on these stations).

N109A - Teck Ghee construction

04 November 2022 - A view of the work site at contract N109A from
a HDB block along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3.

04 November 2022 - A close up view of the contract work site. The
station is located closer to the further end of the contract.

The area around Teck Ghee station has been under construction for some time, being the first Cross Island Line (CRL) station contract awarded. This is also due to the fact that the station is located directly underneath the upcoming North-South Expressway project. The expressway is one part of a larger North-South Corridor that will also combine other forms of transport such as buses, trains & active mobility modes.
