Recently the tunnel boring machine (TBM) for contract CR105 underwent its factory acceptance test (FAT). The FAT is where the client, in this case Taisei Corporation - China State Construction Engineering Corporation Joint Venture, goes to the manufacturing factory to see that the machine meets their expectations after production has completed. A series of tests are conducted to ensure that all is in order before the machine is disassembled for delivery to the client's project site.

CR112 - Hougang Q1 2023 update

19 March 2023 - A view southwards from across Hougang Avenue 10.

It's been a while since we've had an update on the Cross Island Line (CRL), so we're at Hougang this week to kick things off. Work at the northern half (the closed section of Hougang Central Minor) is more advanced than that at the southern half (near existing Exit A, next to the bus interchange) of the site.

CRL1 Video directory

Yesterday, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) released a video showing a flythrough of the upcoming Tampines North station along the Cross Island Line (CRL) phase 1. LTA has been noticeably more active in uploading videos of & marketing the CRL across its social media channels. In addition to the new video on Tampines North, they also uploaded another video on the Rectangular Tunnel Boring Machine (RTBM) being used at the Teck Ghee station under contract N109A to construct subways to two exits located within Bishan-Ang Mo Kio park.

Jurong Lake District pre-construction

25 December 2022 - An aerial view of the Jurong Lake District.

The Cross Island Line (CRL)'s second phase will bring the line further west into Jurong with a final stop at Jurong Lake District (JLD). That is until phase 3 begins work and the line gets extended further west to Gul Circle eventually. Formerly home to the Jurong Country Club, the site has been possessed by the government for the development of the JLD, a new area of development in Jurong East. We take a look at the area before all the major construction work to realign the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) and begin digging for the CRL begins.

West Coast pre-construction

18 December 2022 - An aerial view of the site of the future West Coast station.

Before there is any station at West Coast, before there is any construction work, there is a small sleepy neighbourhood. The site of the future West Coast station on the second phase of the Cross Island Line (CRL) is currently occupied by Tanglin Secondary School. A school with a long history dating back to 1964, the school moved into its current premises in 1993 - approximately 30 years ago! In 2016, the school merged with the former Clementi Woods Secondary School (itself a merger between Ghim Moh Secondary & Jin Tai Secondary schools). This year, the school will undergo another merger, this time with New Town Secondary School, that allows the land upon which the school building sits to be freed up for new uses - including that of being home to an MRT station in future.
