Soil Investigation: Tampines North

Spread of soil investigation boreholes around Tampines North as of 07 August 2018.
As far back as 2016, boreholes have been spotted in the vicinity of Tampines North area. Additional boreholes have also been noted around Tampines Industrial Avenue 2 with some as recently as May 2018. It is expected that the line will cut through the existing Paya Lebar Air Base to connect to the Defu area which was covered in our previous post.

22 December 2016 - This borehole comes under contract ER463 which was for LTA
projects with the location stretching "From Tuas to Changi". Located on the hillock
near bus stop 75319 it is no longer accessible due to Jurong Town Corporation (JTC)
infrastructure works.
The first borehole was noted along Tampines Avenue 10, opposite the Tampines Dormitory. This was from the first phase of soil investigations under contract ER463 which performed the baseline soil investigations to determine the overall route for the Cross Island Line (CRL). Subsequent phases of soil investigations determine the exact refined locations for tunnels and stations with a more localised range of study as compared to the first phase. Below is a table for easy comparison of the rough locations of study for the various phase 2 soil investigation contracts for the CRL eastern leg.

Other soil investigation boreholes were noted along Tampines Industrial Avenue 2 and Tampines Avenue 11 which leads to the new Tampines North housing estate.

North Drive 1.

01 August 2018 - Borehole along Tampines Avenue 11 outside Tampines Greenivew precinct.
The line is expected to continue eastwards after leaving Tampines North to connect to the Pasir Ris east turn out where the spur line to Punggol should split off. Unfortunately, as only the roads up to Tampines Avenue 6 have been constructed, this is the extent to which we have been able to trace soil investigations. Nonetheless, having the line pass through a major new residential estate, it can be expected that there should be a dedicated station serving the Tampins North neighbourhood. Should you see any soil investigation activities along the expected route of the CRL, do let us know so that we can collate the information in order to keep you updated of the latest updates.
