CR112 - TBM assemble!

13 December 2024 - The TBM tail shield during lifting operations.

Contract CR112 has made some headway since the arrival of the Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) at the site. Two TBMs will be used to bore the twin tube tunnels towards Serangoon North station. After a public name voting process, the TBMs are to be named Artemis & Valkyrie. Parts of the first TBM were lowered into the launch shaft on 7 December 2024 and the tail shield was lifted in on 13 December 2024.

It will still take some time before the TBM is fully assembled within the launch shaft. A reaction frame will be installed behind the TBM, allowing it to push off against the frame for its primary drive. This process may take around a month or so, and involves connecting the back up gantries via an umbilical cord to the main section of the TBM shield.

can be seen in the middle of the site.

11 December 2024 - The tail shield on site as seen from the north of the station.

11 December 2024 - Other pieces of the second TBM on site. This TBM may be lowered into
the launch shaft shortly as well, seeing that the covers have been since removed.

13 December 2024 - It was a flurry of activity on site ahead of the launching of the TBM tail shield.

13 December 2024 - Workers used a high lift to connect the lifting lugs to the crane.

13 December 2024 - Slowly, but surely, the tail shield flew without wings towards the launch shaft.

Congratulations to contract CR112 on reaching this milestone. We look forward to the commencement of tunneling works in 2025 and the appearance of the surface monitoring umbrellas that will allow us to gauge where the TBMs are underground. Stay tuned for more updates!
