Today the Land Transport Authority (LTA) awarded contract CR116 for the construction of Ang Mo Kio interchange station and associated tunnels. Contract CR116's award is the fifth for the Cross Island Line, following awards for contracts CR105 (Large diameter tunnel between Aviation Park & Loyang), CR112 (Hougang interchange), CR108 (Pasir Ris interchange) and CR101 (Changi East depot).

The Cross Island Line (CRL) station will sit underneath Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3, to the east of the existing North South Line (NSL) station. With the addition of the new station box, there will be approximately 5 new entrances to the interchange complex. Two of these new entrances on the western side of Ang Mo Kio Avenue 8 will use mining techniques to avoid major disruption to the existing traffic junction above.

According to LTA, the existing Ang Mo Kio NSL station will be reconfigured to facilitate connections with the CRL station. From drawings seen by the team, there will be both a paid and unpaid connection from the NSL station next to the Ang Mo Kio Town Garden (East).

The LTA also highlighted some engineering challenges that the contractor, joint venture between Gammon Construction and Bachy Solentanche, will face. This includes the proximity of the station to other buildings and infrastructure already in place and soil conditions. According to LTA, construction is expected to commence in the fourth quarter of the year for passenger service in 2030.
