Pasir Ris Preview

Recently we came across Ramboll's website which showcased a passenger simulation they had done as a case study. The project was for the Cross Island Line (CRL), presumably Package B of the eastern leg. Some of the details provided were similar to that provided by another company which had also done a passenger traffic simulation study for Punggol station - VertixAP. Along with the case study was a short video showing perspectives of the station.

From the layout, one can easily see the station is a stacked island station, which leaves the only possibility as Pasir Ris, which is the diverging point between the CRL mainline & CRL Punggol Extension. Another give away is the existing East West Line (EWL) station, sited a bit farther away from the CRL station.

Through the video, we are able to tell that a double-level connecting subway will be built to connect the CRL station with the existing EWL. The lower level of this transfer subway will feature a direct link to the EWL platforms. We are also able to note that the CRL station will feature at least 4 levels - B2 for the concourse level, B3 for the transfer level, B4 for the upper platforms of the main line and B5 for the lower platforms housing the Punggol Extension tracks.

It is likely that the paid-to-paid transfer link will be similar to the one currently used when transferring from the North East Line to East West Line at Outram Park where 1 link features escalators only whilst a second link features both escalators and elevators. In the case of Pasir Ris, it is likely that the elevator will connect passengers from the B2 level to the ground level where they will need to use the existing elevator within Pasir Ris EWL station to access the platforms.

Unfortunately, the only available render of Pasir Ris station happens to be a small image. Nonetheless, based on matching, the above render is likely that of the transfer level at B3. The bank of escalators connecting to the lower linkway level can be seen in the background. While we wait for more renders to become available to show different perspectives of the station and its entrance designs, we'll be content to understand the station layout based on the pedestrian simulation video found.
