CRL3 / CR3018 - The future CRL western depot site?

We previously wrote on contract CR3018 for Earthworks and Associated Works at the former site of the Raffles Country Club in Tuas. In our post, we mentioned that the works may potentially be for site preparation of the Cross Island Line (CRL)'s western depot, given that land zoning in the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA)'s masterplans have indicated that the site is zoned for use as transport facilities. Other bus-related infrastructure has not taken up such an extensive land space, which might suggest the use of the plot of land as the CRL's western depot. We take a look at the progress of works, given that the contract number for the site begins with the suffix 'CR', typically used on CRL contracts.

CRL3 - Contracts CR3016, CR3018 & CR3019

During the groundbreaking ceremony held for the Cross Island Line (CRL)'s phase 2 the Acting Minister for Transport, Mr. Jeffrey Siow, also alluded to the fact that studies on phase 3 of the line were nearly completed, with a potential announcement by year's end. Corresponding to his comments, we have also noted an uptick in the amount of advanced works that have been taking place along the alignment of this phase - notably pertaining to contracts CR3016, CR3018 & CR3019.

Thanks to an eagle-eyed IG follower of ours, @linhsu88, we were informed that the Land Transport Authority had floated contract CR3018 for tender last week. The delivery date for the contract, whose tender closes in May 2024, is March 2027. We did some digging over the weekend and found that previously, there was a similar contract awarded for the Jurong Region Line (JRL). Contract J1018 was for Earthworks and Associated Works.
