Last week, we took a look at the progress of the Cross Island Line (CRL)'s Punggol Extension. This week, we catch up on progress along CRL's phase 1 section, covering 6 contracts under the phase. Join us as we take a look at progress made from Pasir Ris East to Ang Mo Kio in this snapshot update of CRL1.

CRL1 & CPE - Upcoming traffic diversions (Aug 2025)

Beyond the upcoming road diversion mentioned in our post on the contract CR115 roadshow, several other Cross Island Line (CRL) contracts will be implementing similar diversions at their respective project sites. These changes to the road networks are scheduled to take place between mid & late August. The details after the jump.

CR115 - Tavistock roadshow 2025

In early August, contractor Sato Kogyo held a roadshow for contract CR115 to update residents and stakeholders in the area on construction progress for the project. The roadshow was held at a pavilion in Tavistock Park, with a few exhibition panels on display covering various areas such as construction updates on the Earth Retaining & Stablising System (ERSS), tunneling works and road diversions. Various representatives from the contractor and the public relations team were on hand to interact with visitors and answer any questions raised.

The weekend of 16 & 17 November will be a busy one for the Cross Island Line (CRL) with various traffic diversions, temporary road closures & changes to road schemes taking place across three different projects over 2 phases of the line. The works in particular will affect residents in Pasir Ris at the site of contract CR108, in Ang Mo Kio near site CR115 at Tavistock station and at King Albert Park at the site of CR205.

We have a quick update on some developments along the Cross Island Line (CRL) to share: The launch of contract CR211's Telegram channel & TBM #1 for contract CR115 and confirmed names of the tunnel boring machines (TBMs) for contract CR112. More information after the jump.

CR115 - Tavistock update Q1 2024

Contract CR115 for the construction of Tavistock station and tunnels connecting to both Ang Mo Kio and Serangoon North station has seen great progress accomplished over the past quarter. Diaphragm wall works have been completed at the Exit 4 site and the launch shaft is well on its way to completion ahead of tunneling works commencing.

Over Q3 2023, road diversions have been put in place at Tavistock station and more machinery has moved in to the site. With works in full swing, diaphragm wall excavation is due to commence in mid-Q4 2023. We take a closer look at the progress made over the past quarter in this post.

CR115 - Tavistock update Q2 2023

The landscape over at contract CR115 for the construction of Tavistock station and tunnels linking to both Ang Mo Kio & Serangoon North stations has changed dramatically over the last quarter. Trees have been felled to make way for upcoming works while noise barriers have sprung up close to the landed properties and JTC block fronting Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3. In addition, a petrol station at the junction with Ang Mo Kio Industrial Park 2 has been vacated to facilitate the upcoming works.

Yesterday, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) released a video showing a flythrough of the upcoming Tampines North station along the Cross Island Line (CRL) phase 1. LTA has been noticeably more active in uploading videos of & marketing the CRL across its social media channels. In addition to the new video on Tampines North, they also uploaded another video on the Rectangular Tunnel Boring Machine (RTBM) being used at the Teck Ghee station under contract N109A to construct subways to two exits located within Bishan-Ang Mo Kio park.

Contract CR115 involves the construction of Tavistock station and a launch shaft located to the west of the station, across the Central Expressway (CTE). Roadways will need to be diverted at both sites to allow for construction activities to commence. We take a closer look at the progress at the site since our last visit.

The contract for Tavistock station was awarded together with the contract for the construction of Serangoon North station. However the site at Tavistock appears to be a fair bit more advanced in preparation than that of Serangoon North's. This contract also involves the construction of the line's twin bored running tunnels connecting with both Ang Mo Kio and Serangoon North stations on either side. An intermediate launch shaft near the Central Expressway is to be built to facilitate tunneling works as well.

Contract CR115 is for the construction of Tavistock station and tunnels starting at Ang Mo Kio station & ending at Serangoon North station. The tunneling works will also involve tunneling through the Tavistock station box before excavation reaches the base slab level - similar to that which was done for Katong Park station - where the tunnel rings will subsequently be removed to allow for station construction.

TAVISTOCK PARK, Singapore - The Land Transport Authority (LTA) together with contractor Sato Kogyo on Saturday afternoon, held a mini-exhibition at Tavistock Park for residents in the area. With an aim to educate the residents on the upcoming works for the station, several exhibits detailing various aspects of the construction were set up at one of the pavilions within the park. A sizeable crowd was noted at the beginning of the exhibition, with several participants interacting with LTA staff who were carrying A3 sized print outs to explain the stages of construction to attentive residents.

CRL1 - Detailed station location maps

During the ministerial visit and announcement at Bright Hill station for Cross Island Line stage 1 (CRL1) this morning, there were no exhibits showing the detailed station location maps for each of the 12 stations along the announced section. Additionally, the Land Transport Authority does not appear to have released such maps either. Instead, we have noted various Members of Parliament have been posting these on their social media platforms. Do have a look at some of the more detailed station location plans we've found and we will continually update on any new maps as we come across them.

CRL1 announced

The Land Transport Authority announced the station locations for Cross Island Line stage 1 (CRL1) this morning at a site visit by Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan to Bright Hill station. This will be the location of stage 1's western terminus.

Do stay tuned as the official press release becomes available later this afternoon.

Speculated station locations

After collating all the sightings of soil investigation works, we can finally compile a list of probable station locations for the Cross Island Line eastern (CRLe) section. Knowing that the line stretches from Changi to Bright Hill, here's our list of the speculated stations.

Soil Investigation: Tavistock / Ang Mo Kio Industrial Park 2

We will soon be concluding our coverage of soil investigations along the Cross Island Line East (CRLe) section. However, till then, there are another 2 sites at which we have noted intense soil investigation works. One of these is at a location which we're referring to as Tavistock, which is located near Ang Mo Kio Industrial Park 2 and north of Serangoon Gardens.
