Contract CR112 was the first civil contract for the Cross Island Line (CRL) phase 1 to be awarded. Since the contract award, work has commenced at the station site with contract Samsung C&T beginning to set up the site office at the junction of Upper Serangoon Road and Hougang Central, just next to the Midtown Mall & Residences.

At the moment, the site is still under construction and has not achieved occupancy status yet. From notices put up at nearby HDB blocks, we understand that a Project Information Centre (PIC) will be housed here eventually. The notice also detailed the timeframe for upcoming work at the station site.

Work at the station site is also underway with some piling works and load testing works being carried out. Heavy equipment such as a crane are already onsite to begin preliminary works.

The Hougang interchange site is the first to have visible works commence, such as the hoarding up of the station site and clearing of the work areas. In time to come, more visible works such as road diversions will come into place as well - we look forward to the successful commencement of works for CRL Phase 1 and hopefully an official ground breaking ceremony can take place.
