Cross Island Line Construction: CPE & CRL2

The 9 station sites of CPE & CRL2 as of end-2023.

2023 was an eventful year for both the Cross Island Line (CRL)'s Punggol Extension (CPE) & Phase 2 (CRL2) sections with the ground breaking ceremony and contracts being awarded respectively. With the ground breaking ceremony taking place this year, work has began at all 3 station sites under the offshoot branch which connects the main CRL line at Pasir Ris with Punggol - a precursor to the long spoken about Northshore Line which would have eventually connected Punggol and Woodlands. Over at CRL2, contract awarded began, with 3 of the 9 civil contracts awarded through the year. All in all, 2023 has been exciting for the phase 2 stations.

CP2 - Elias [Contract P102]
The last of the 3 civil contracts awarded for the CPE section, site clearing has begun at the contract site. Hoarding had gone up around the area to be cleared earlier this year, with the tree felling works taking place towards the end of the year.

CP3 - Riviera [Contract P103]
This contract was the first of the 3 civil contracts awarded for the CPE section. As such, the site has seen numerous changes. An existing pedestrian overhead bridge has since been demolished and replaced with a street level crossing. Road diversions have taken place to allow a work site to be created in the road median.

CP4 - Punggol [Contract P105]
The site for the interchange station and terminus of the CPE has been slowly ramping up. Two sites on either side of the existing Punggol station have been hoarded up and machinery stored on site. However apart from this, there is little else visible in terms of works being carried out as yet.

CR14 - Turf City [Contract CR203]
The contract for the construction of the future Turf City station has yet to be awarded. As such, there are not many visible differences to the site apart from the vacating of the premises by the tenants. Come 1 January 2024, the site will be closed off to the public.

CR15 - King Albert Park [Contract CR205]
The contract for the station was recently awarded this past year. However work is only expected to commence in the first quarter of next year, thus no changes are noted at the site.

CR16 - Maju [Contract CR206]
While the contract for the construction of the station has yet to be awarded, the advanced works contract is underway. Site clearing has taken place and water pipe relocation works are in progress. As the majority of the work takes place in the road side table, the roadway is not yet affected.

CR17 - Clementi [Contract CR208]
Demolition of 3 existing residential blocks has taken place through the year before the site is handed over to the contractor that was awarded the contract. The police station has been vacated in the later part of the year as well and the winning contractor will be responsible for the demolition of the police station ahead of construction works.

CR18 - West Coast [Contract CR209]
With the contract only being recently awarded, there are no changes to the site as yet. The winning contractor will be responsible for the demolition of the vacated Tanglin Secondary School building before construction begins.

CR19 - Jurong Lake District [Contract CR211]
The contract for the terminus of the line has yet to be awarded, as such there are no changes to the site at present.

2024 will bring more milestones such as the award of the remaining contracts for Phase 2 of the line. In addition, we can expect diaphragm wall works to commence along the Punggol Extension and a ground breaking ceremony to be held for Phase 2.
