Our last summary update for phase 2 of the Cross Island Line (CRL) was some time ago. With the recent public holidays in the previous month, we managed to make a few visits to some of the sites along the southern section of this line. Do check out the updates to find out more on the progress of the contracts thus far after the jump!

Tunnels between Maju & Clementi stations (Contract CR207)
In a nutshell: This contract was one of the latest under this phase of the line to be awarded. According to consultancy firm Aurecon, this contract will see 3 slurry Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) being used to bore tunnels between Maju and Clementi stations. According to the map, the tunnels run underneath Clementi Road before veering off to approach the Clementi station, cutting through some facilities in Sunset Way and Clementi estate. The former Eastlodge hostel has seemingly been closed and the site taken over for the contract CR207 project and another Public Utilities Board (PUB) deep sewerage tunnel contract.

CR17 – Clementi (Contract CR208)
In a nutshell: With demolition of the former neighbourhood police centre & Clementi division police headquarters, most of the site has been prepared for the commencement of diaphragm wall works. Heavy equipment has been delivered to the site as work gears up to begin on the perimeter wall. The former covered linkway from Clementi station to the neighbouring HDB blocks has since been closed, with a temporary replacement linkway opened for pedestrians' use.

CR18 – West Coast (Contract CR209)
In a nutshell: Demolition of the former Tanglin Secondary School has since been completed, with the only traces of the former school being limited portions of the perimeter wall near West Coast Road. According to circulars released on the contract's official Telegram channel, diaphragm wall construction work is due to commence from mid-February and last up to Q1 2027. Diaphragm wall construction works are typically the most disruptive phase in the construction of underground stations. Soil investigation works were ongoing along the route of the future bored tunnels as well.
