CRL2 - Speculated Station Locations

A map of the expected phase 2 of the Cross Island Line. Own production.

As it has been more than 2 years since Cross Island Line (CRL) Punggol Extension was announced, we are expecting news of the next phase of the line to be announced this year. With an expected completion date of 2032, we foresee tenders for advanced contracts to be published soon. Earlier in June, pre-qualifications for 8 contracts for the second phase of the line were called for.

The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) also published the latest Long-Term Plan in June 2022 which showed the notional full alignment of the CRL. By overlaying the long-term plan map over a geographic map, we were able to collaborate the supporting data and information with the latest sightings of soil investigation works to compile a list of probable station locations for the CRL2 section. This section of the CRL will continue from the tunnel section directly crossing below the Central Catchment Nature Reserve (CCNR), and ends at Jurong Lake District.

We expect that there will be a total of 6 stations in this section, which stretches over 15km consisting of 5km below the CCNR, and 10km of tunnels between the 6 stations.
Geographical map of our expected CRL2 stations & alignment based on URA's long term plan.

Do note that these are unofficial station locations, speculation of which has been made based on educated guesses with reference to soil investigation sites, alignment taken from the 2022 URA Long-Term Plan, and our understanding of the soil conditions. This blog is not linked to the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and is not representative of official information, thus information here should not be treated as official. That said, we have also drawn on our past experiences and also included our understanding of planning decisions made by LTA for the location of MRT stations over the past few years, to come up with our best guesses of the station locations for phase 2.

CR14 - Eng Neo / Fairways / Turf City

City area as indicated on LTA's info kit in press releases.

The first station on the second phase of the line is likely to be located in the old turf club area. As indicated on drawings accompanying the LTA press release, the arrow on the left points to Turf City. With the land area around the old turf club slated for redevelopment in the long-term plan, a station here would provide a catalyst for the development - much like how the opening of Lentor station has allowed the plots around the station to be sold for housing and other purposes.

CR15/DT6 - King Albert Park (Interchange with Downtown Line)

to transfer to the Downtown Line.

10 September 2017 - Borehole along Blackmore Drive, behind the King
Albert Park DTL station.

10 September 2017 - A borehole along Blackmore Drive, opposite the DTL
King Albert Park station entrance.

30 December 2021 - A soil investigation rig at the building compound.

01 January 2022 - Soil investigation rig

The second station along this stretch of the line is located at the Downtown Line's (DTL) King Albert Park station, allowing passengers to transfer between either line. Several soil investigation rigs were noted at the site over the years making this an extremely likely location for a station.

09 January 2021 - Soil investigation rig outside Corona nursery along
Clementi Road.

The third station on this stretch of the CRL is likely to be located around the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) along Clementi Road and near to Maju camp. Soil investigation has been going on for several years with the number of rigs & boreholes intensifying in 2021.

CR17/EW23 - Clementi (Interchange with East-West Line)

junctions.

Division headquarters.

The fourth station will be Clementi station on the existing East-West Line (EWL). From the get-go of the CRL's official announcement, Clementi has been listed as one of the locations through which the line will pass. The underground station could also possibly link up with the basement level of Clementi Mall to offer greater convenience to shoppers and commuters alike.

CR18 - West Coast / Ayer Rajah / Clementi West

26 June 2022 - Soil investigation rig near Ayer Rajah market.
26 June 2022 - Soil investigation rig near Ayer Rajah market with a sign

26 June 2022 - Boreholes near Tanglin Secondary School.

01 September 2017 - A borehole outside Tanglin Secondary School.

01 September 2017 - Faint remnants of the marker can be seen. The top
line reads LTA.

In addition to falling enrolment, future development plans at Tanglin Secondary School's current site were also part of the considerations for its merger with New Town Secondary School.
Recent soil investigation rigs and borehole markers spotted around this location indicate the possibility of a station being located nearby. The acquisition of Tanglin Secondary School for future redevelopment needs also points to a high probability that the station will be located here.

CR19 - Jurong Lake District (Potential non-paid Link to JE6 - Jurong Town Hall Station)

We foresee this station to be fully integrated with the underground pedestrian network (UPN) for Jurong Lake District, which would connect the CRL station with Jurong Town Hall Station on JRL.

We will update with the actual location of the stations once they are announced so stay tuned to us.

  1. For CR18, it's expected to be an interchange with JRL's possible West Coast Extension.

For CR19, it should be merged with JRL's Jurong Town Hall Station to form a proper interchange. Weird that if it's a separate station

For the first one I feel Turf City is the more suitable name to reflect Turf City
