CR107 - Pasir Ris East update Q1 2024

Street 12.

First of all, unfortunately we only managed to drop by the site towards the end of Q1, so there are somewhat fewer images in this update. However, works thus far have mostly been relegated to diaphragm wall construction for the most part and are hardly the most exciting of works. Perhaps it is not such a bad thing to have visited only once over the past quarter. Nonetheless, we'll do our best to break down how things are progressing over at the site.

In the past quarter, the worksite made news when a portion of noise barriers were involved in an accident. You can read more about the incident on Channel News Asia, The Straits Times or Today. This happened much earlier in the quarter, in mid-January. Following the incident, a stop-work order was issued for the worksite that has since been lifted. The section of noise barrier that was damaged as a result of the impact from the clamshell grabber had been repaired.

With work resuming, by the end of the quarter, excavation works had begun at the eastern-most end of the station. This section will eventually connect the station box to the cooling tower located at the open green space near blocks 208, 207 & 206. Part of the roof slab had been cast for the cut & cover tunnel here and it is anticipated that backfilling works may begin on this section to allow construction access further into the work site.

Right next to block 208 along the closed section of Pasir Ris Drive 1 will be the launch shafts for the adjoining contract CR106. The contractor for contract CR106 will take over the launch shaft and use it for tunnel works towards Loyang station, handing the shaft back to contract CR107 for completion of station works. As at Q1, works for the westbound tunnel's launch shaft were beginning to unveil the diaphragm walls of the shaft. Excavation work had yet to begin.

Further along at the western end of the station, diaphragm wall works were taking place to provide the outline of the station. Once completed - likely some time in 2025 - works will be able to progress to the excavation stage. This work site will likely utilise the top-down method of construction by progressively excavating down and casting the permanent slabs as they are reached as opposed to digging all the way down to the base level and casting slabs progressively upwards. This method enables stability of the site to be maintained, given that both sides of the site are densely built up.

With diaphragm wall works likely to continue for some time to come, we aren't sure if there will be too much different taking place at the site for some time to come yet. Nonetheless, we'll do our best to keep you updated as works progress.
