Pre-construction: Clementi

2 October 2022 - A view of the existing East-West Line (EWL) station.

Clementi station was announced on 20 September 2022 to be an interchange along the second phase of the Cross Island Line (CRL). As one of the earliest established towns along the western corridor, along with neighbouring Queenstown, the town has become a popular place to live due to its proximity to various locations - be it institutes of higher education, hospitals or nature parks. Due to the older nature of the Housing & Development Board (HDB) blocks in the town, several have undergone redevelopment. Part of the Clementi CRL station site will utilize a section being vacated by existing HDB blocks.

1980's.

5 stations on the western reach of the EWL, running roughly parallel to Commonwealth Avenue & Commonwealth Avenue West for most part, utilize the same base design. They are blocky, used to be covered in tiles and feature a pastel colour scheme. 3 of the stations also sit within the road median. However one peculiar distinction that sets Clementi apart from the other stations is the steps present between the linkbridge and the concourse level. We are not sure why this is the only station built in this manner and research into the matter has been inconclusive.

sufficient headroom for passengers to pass through.

Next to the station, 3 HDB blocks have been vacated for several years and the residents shifted over to the newer Clementi Cascadia precinct. These blocks - 321, 322 & 323 - will be demolished and part of the site used for the CRL station project.

Clementi Avenue 4. Some of these trees may have to make way for the CRL station construction,
however where possible, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) makes efforts to relocate such trees.

Construction works for the Clementi CRL station will not commence for some time yet as the contract tender and award process may take about a year. In the mean time, site preparation works may be in effect - such as the demolition of the vacated HDB blocks and utility diversions. We look forward to the contracts for phase 2 of the CRL being tendered and their subsequent award.
