CR106 - Before the road closure

03 October 2022 - A view of the northbound lanes of Loyang Avenue, next to the Loyang bus depot.

Thank you dear readers for putting up with the momentary hiatus over the last few weeks - some of us were involved in a family wedding of one of our siblings & the ensuing family reunion over in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. We're now back to our regular reporting and with the recent road closure that took place along Pasir Ris Drive 1 yesterday, are back with more images to capture how things look before a further road closure along Loyang Avenue to facilitate the construction of the Cross Island Line (CRL) station under contract CR106 as well as the upcoming Loyang Viaduct.

Did you know that the Loyang station is anticipated to have 2 island platforms with a third track within the station, much like the Paya Lebar station on the Circle Line (CCL)? In view of this arrangement, a bit more space will be necessary for the station box due to the presence of switches on either side of the station to allow the trains to cross onto the middle track.

2023.

03 October 2022 - A view of the empty southbound lanes along the same road, towards Tampines.

For the moment, the roadway is largely untouched with no diversions being implemented. The only evidence of any work on the roadways are the patches where the road has been touched up and re-paved after trial trenching works have been completed to facilitate utility detection. Otherwise, all other work thus far has taken place at the sides of the site.

Near the contract site office, next to Loyang Tua Pek Kiong Temple, a hydrofraise machine can be seen. This is the machine that will help to excavate the diaphragm walls for the station. Also nearby is a crawler crane that will be used to assist with diaphragm wall construction as well.

The road closure is scheduled to be implemented in 2023 and will last for the duration of construction of the CRL station, cut & cover tunnels and road viaduct.
