CR107 - Pasir Ris East update Q3 2023

17 September 2023 - An aerial view of the station work site from the eastern end.

So we're commencing our Q3 updates slightly early with Pasir Ris East up first. Over at the eastern end of the station, works are focused on constructing the diaphragm walls for the launch shaft where tunnel boring machines (TBMs) will be lowered by neighbouring contractor Woh Hup for contract CR106. The TBMs will bore the twin tunnels eastwards, to Loyang station. As such, the launch shaft will be completed under CR107 but subsequently handed over for tunneling works. Upon the completion of tunneling works and first stage concreting, the shaft may be handed back to CR107's contractor, Singapore Engineering & Construction - Sinohydro Corporation Limited joint venture, to complete the remainder of the works.

Information available at the CRL1 PIC
The Cross Island Line (CRL) phase 1 Project Information Centre (PIC) located at Hougang recently opened its doors to the public. The PIC features several touch screen displays which are able to call out information related to the contract as well as show you a flythrough video of how the station will look when completed.

In addition to the details of the contract, architectural models are also available on hand to let you visualise how everything stacks up once completed. The models also allow visitors to have a perspective on how the station integrates with the location, where the exits will be and how the current works facilitate the structure's construction.

For Pasir Ris East, the station will feature a total of 4 exits and 2 ancillary surface structures. The awarded contract - CR107 - was only for the construction of the station building without tunnels. These will be done by neighbouring contracts CR106 to the east & CR108 to the west.

Eastern end - the launch shaft
Diaphragm wall works are focused on this end of the station in order to complete the shaft and subsequent excavation before handover to Woh Hup for CR106's tunneling works. Noise barriers have been put up around the neighbouring apartment blocks and Whitesands Primary School to reduce noise generated from the works. In due time, the contractors are likely to engage the students of Whitesands Primary School so that they can understand what the works are for. The students may even take part in a competition to name the TBMs before they commence work.

The middle - the station box proper
The middle section of the station is where the main box is located. This box will house the exits, concourse and platform levels as well as any ancillary building structures that are required. One such building will be located near block 212A. Work here is not as advanced yet. During a briefing session attended by the team recently, the contractor shared that diaphragm walling works here had not commenced yet. We understand that the focus at the moment is to complete the diaphragm walls of the launch shaft before the remaining sections begin in earnest.

The western end - the cut & cover exit subways
At the western end of the station, just outside the community club building, will be a pair of exits to serve the neighbourhood centre and residents. These will be built using the cut & cover technique where a trench is excavated and the subway links and connections to the surface built within. Once the structure has been completed and waterproofed, soil is then placed back on top of the completed roof slabs.

Over the course of the past quarter, the roadway was diverted to create suitable work spaces with room for heavy machinery to maneuver. Site preparation works then commence ahead of construction of the earth retaining & stabilising system (ERSS) which may employ the use of sheet piles, diaphragm walls or bored piles. In this case, it appears that bored piles may be used.

17 September 2023

17 September 2023 - The road has been pushed closer to the community club building.

Good progress has been made over the past quarter in completing the noise barriers around the station site. Further works are in progress to replace sections of the covered linkway that have to be diverted to support the roadway diversion, near the community club building. The final quarter of the year should see works begin to pick up further as several heavy machines were seen on site not fully assembled. When these machines come online, the work at other sections can begin to progress simultaneously. Do stay tuned for the updates as we bring them to you.
