CR109 - Tampines North update February 2024

25 February 2024 - An aerial view of the contract CR109 work site.

Unfortunately for contract CR109, we were only able to get an update in February for the first quarter of the year. But nonetheless, the visit to the work site has shown some noticeable differences. Excavation work has progressed with soil stabilising work taking place at the sides. You might notice that the work site is rather long and elongated - this is due to the station having an accompanying section of cut & cover tunnel to the south which will allow for a crossover.

25 February 2024 - Machinery at work on the site creating bored piles.

Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM)
Segments of the TBM have since arrived on site. 2 machines will be used to construct the tunnels to the contract CR110 east facility building located to the west and to Pasir Ris station located further east. Both the TBMs will be used for 2 separate drives each, with the internal components being pulled back and re-launched in new skins from the contract CR109 launch shafts. As the Cross Island Line (CRL) uses an overhead electrification system, the TBM and tunnel diameters need to be slightly larger than that of other systems locally that use third rail electrification systems. The North East Line (NEL) used similarly larger TBMs for its tunnels as well.

With the 2 machines on Singaporean soil, it is exciting that the tunneling works for the CRL are that much closer to beginning. We eagerly await for the official ceremony to commence tunneling works for the line.
