Contract CR115 for the construction of Tavistock station and tunnels connecting to both Ang Mo Kio and Serangoon North station has seen great progress accomplished over the past quarter. Diaphragm wall works have been completed at the Exit 4 site and the launch shaft is well on its way to completion ahead of tunneling works commencing.

Launch shaft
The launch shaft has made great progress over the past quarter, with excavation works about reaching base level. According to circulars seen at the HDB blocks nearby, excavation is expected to continue up to April 2024. Thereafter, a noise enclosure is due to be built over the top of the launch shaft to insulate the residents from noise generated as a result of tunneling works.

Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM)
The TBM is expected to be delivered to site in early April 2024, with the contractor & Land Transport Authority (LTA) providing early notice to residents via Telegram. We expect that there will be approximately 3 TBMs used for this contract. 2 should be launched from the shaft and begin tunneling towards Tavistock station and thereafter, through the station box and onwards to Serangoon North. The remaining TBM will tunnel towards Ang Mo Kio and be reassembled at the launch shaft for a repeat journey to the station.

As Q1 comes to a close, we look forward to the arrival of the TBM at the launch shaft which represents a step closer to tunneling works beginning for the line. Do stay tuned for updates as we bring them to you.
