CR113 - Serangoon North update Q1 2024

21 March 2024 - A view of the Exit 1 site at the heart of Serangoon North neighbourhood.

Probably the biggest changes at Serangoon North's work site for the Cross Island Line (CRL) phase 1 over the first quarter has been the road realignment and the completion of diaphragm wall works for Exit 2 of the station. The road realignment took place at the traffic junction between Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 and Serangoon North Avenues 1 & 3, pushing the roads further towards the southern edge of the work site.

Exit 1
The main exit for the station that opens up to the Serangoon North town centre, diaphragm wall works have been completed here for some time now. With these works completed, space at the exit work site could be used to facilitate a road realignment that pushed main thoroughfare Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 further south. Apart from this, there has not been any other major change to the site over the first quarter.

Exit 2
The second exit for the station is located just outside block 553. Here, diaphragm wall works have been completed. This exit will be connected to the main station box through a subway, hence it is unlikely that there will be much excavation work taking place underneath Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 here. The station's platforms and main box will sit between Yio Chu Kang Road and the junction with Serangoon North Avenues 1 & 3. Opposite the site for Exit 2, an area in front of block 101 has been hoarded up and noise barriers installed to mitigate construction noise generated from the Exit 2 works. This area may also be used to facilitate road diversions pushing Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 further south if necessary.

to mitigate noise generated from the Exit 2 site.

Exit 3
Located in front of blocks 528 & 516 along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3, the work site for the exit is still rather narrow as the roadway was not pushed towards the south entirely as yet. The site was also still in the midst of preparation, with a layer of crushed stone being added to help distribute the weight of the heavy construction vehicles within the site.

Exits 4 & 5
Exit 4 is located just outside Bowen Secondary School, along Hougang Avenue 2, while Exit 5 is located just behind The Serangoon CC. Works at Exit 4 have concentrated on preparation of the launch shaft pit for mined tunnel works along with the construction of the embankment for the realignment of the slip road from Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 to Yio Chu Kang Road junction. Diaphragm wall works also continued for the main station box at the station's eastern end, near the beginning of the slip road.

Over at Exit 5, works had yet to begin, thus there was not a lot going on as yet. However, works are expected to begin picking up from Q3 of the year when road diversions are put in place and diaphragm wall construction commences after the site take over.
