On 30th October 2022, a section of Pasir Ris Drive 1 between the junction with Pasir Ris Drive 4/Pasir Ris Street 11 & the junction with Pasir Ris Drive 2/Pasir Ris Street 12 was closed to road traffic. The road closure will allow for the construction of the future Pasir Ris East station along the Cross Island Line (CRL). The team paid a visit a day after the closure to check out the site and see how things had changed following the road closure.

As with any road closure, there are some major changes. Over at Drive 1, signs have been put up behind the concrete barriers blocking off the lanes at the junctions bordering on the closed sections of the road. Movable barriers are also going up along the pedestrian foot paths next to the closed roadway to allow for work to go on without pedestrians intruding into the work site.

The road looks somewhat eerily quiet, devoid of any traffic. In some sense, it appears almost post-apocalyptic. But with the sun shining down and the light hum of traffic from the nearby junctions, any notions of this being some movie set for a zombie film dissipate. We look forward to seeing the site progress even further when hoarding and the noise barriers go up ahead of further works like diaphragm wall installation. Do stay tuned as we update on the progress here in time to come.
