Contract CR205 - King Albert Park kicks off construction

Contract CR205 for the construction of the Cross Island Line (CRL)'s King Albert Park station was one of the first civil contracts for stations on phase 2 of the line to be awarded. With the successful award of the contract, works were to begin on site by the end of Q1 2024. Although the station site appears to be quiet, a fair bit of work has begun taking place.

At the northern end of the site, soil investigation works are taking place on site. The boreholes created will enable the contractor to determine the soil composition of the site - an important step as the soil consists of various layers that cannot be seen from the surface. Rock layers, that may be encountered, offer a more stable construction surface than sands, for instance. However, rock layers may also be a lot harder to dig through than sand - thus it is necessary to perform these tests to obtain a sampling of the site's composition before any excavation work commences.

contract CR205.

Other works taking place includes slab installation over the existing drainage system in the area. The slab over the existing drainage system may play a part in preventing soil or other contaminants from the construction site from entering and clogging up the drainage system.

As for the southern side, works here involve the construction of the temporary site office which will house the project team through the construction of the station. Upon completion in 2032, the site office will be dismantled and the site restored to the open, green space that it currently is.

You might have noticed that there are links to a Telegram group for the project. We had found the contract's Telegram group in mid-February and are happy to share the link with you.

With the commencement of works to prepare the site for construction, CRL2 is a step closer to reality. We look forward to the works beginning full swing and will do our utmost to keep you update on progress as the project moves along.
