Contract CR110 is for the construction of a large diameter bored tunnel from Paya Lebar Air Base (PLAB) to Defu station. The launch shaft for the large diameter tunnel boring machine (TBM) will be located near a row of shophouses along Tampines Road. Work has been going on here for some time with heavy machinery progressively being brought on site. A hydrofraise machine was also recently seen here, awaiting deployment for the construction of diaphragm walls.

2023 will see the construction of the launch shaft for the contract through the creation of diaphragm walls. Once the perimeter walls have been completed, excavation can begin ahead of the delivery of the large diameter TBM which will be bigger than those typically used to construct existing MRT lines. Do stay tuned as we wrap up 2022 with updates on the various rail construction sites.
